The Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommended hourly fee for psychologists in 2013-2014 is $246 per 50 minutes. Our standard fees are $180 per 50 minutes, with a small surcharge for Saturday appointments. Your first appointment will be a 90 minute assessment and costs $270 (APS recommends $357).
Medicare rebates are available for psychological treatment of eligible mental health conditions. You will be able to claim a proportion of your fees from Medicare if your doctor assesses you to be eligible for psychological services under Medicare, and if you have a referral and a “care plan” from your doctor. If you have a Medicare care plan, Medicare will reimburse up to $84 per session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.
Alternatively, a proportion of your fees may be redeemable from your private health insurance, depending on your health plan.
